June 14th is Flag Day

Flag Day

If you have been to Star Auto Sales you will see a lot of American Flags flying. We have flags on all of our cars.

On June 14, 1777 the Continental Congress adopted a flag with 13 white stars, one representing each state, in a circle on a blue background. Alongside the blue were 13 red and white stripes also representing each state. As new states became part of our country the stars increased but the stripes remained at 13 representing the original 13 states.

As early as 1886 it was proposed that June 14 be known as Flag Day. However, it wasn’t until August 1949 that President Harry Truman signed legislation and proclaimed June 14th as Flag Day. Every year the President issues an annual proclamation for all government buildings, businesses and residents observe Flag Day.
